Weekend box office results… Netflix is considering new release format… Kanye & the Queen… Gisele tweets support… and Ray J slams Kris Jenner again in scandal
Listen to “Showbiz – Sept 12, 2022” on Spreaker.
It was a slow weekend at the box office, but the new movie “Barbarian” ended up in the top spot, earning $10M in its opening weekend. The budget for “Barbarian” was only $10.5M, so producers are super happy about that. This is a horror movie about a woman who shows up at the Airbnb she’d rented only to find out it had been double-booked, but decides to go ahead and stay the night in the house with this man she doesn’t know. What could possibly go wrong? Rotten Tomatoes critics are loving it. It’s got 93 percent positive reviews. The audience rating is at 74 percent. Coming in a distant second was the Indian, Hindi-language film “Brahmāstra: Part One: Shiva,” with $4.4M, but it only played on 810 screens, so that’s really good. “Bullet Train” was third with $3.25M. “Top Gun: Maverick” is still hanging in there in fourth place with another $3.2M. This movie has passed the $1.45B mark globally, passing “Frozen II” to become the biggest “part two” sequel of all time. And rounding out the top five was “DC League of Super-Pets” with $2.8M.
#Barbarian overperformed at the domestic box office, where it won the weekend with $10 million in ticket sales from 2,340 theaters, putting it well ahead of an expected $5 million to $6 million opening https://t.co/Mhx7tHOUEi

Netflix started the whole binge-watching phenomenon, but now they’re considering moving away from that. Netflix is thinking about releasing episodes once a week rather than all at once for some, not all, of their shows. Reportedly, Season 5 of “Stranger Things” will not be affected by that. It will be dumped on us all at once. Netflix is facing a lot more competition from other streaming services, who are ramping up their original content. Disney+ and Amazon release episodes for their biggest shows once a week, and Netflix thinks that helps keep viewers engaged over longer periods of time.

Who knew the death of Queen Elizabeth would have such an impact on Kanye West? Last week, Kanye photoshopped a pair of Yeezy wraparound shades on a photo of the Queen, captioning it, “LIFE IS PRECIOUS … RELEASING ALL GRUDGES TODAY … LEANING INTO THE LIGHT … BEST WISHES AND BLESSINGS TO PETE CUDI DANIEL CHEERY.” Daniel Cherry is an executive at Adidas Kanye doesn’t care for right now. Kanye quickly deleted that post and re-uploaded a new one that said the same thing, except he took out the names of the people he’s forgiven. He also replaced the photoshopped picture of the Queen in Yeezys with two non-photoshopped images of Her Majesty.
Kanye West is having an apparent change of heart in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, apparently deciding to stop his aggressions toward his most recent enemies. https://t.co/q1Dkfj19hL

Tom Brady retired in February. A little more than a month later, he un-retired, posting on Instagram, “These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible.” His supportive wife even left a comment, “Here we go again! Let’s go lovvvey! Let’s go Bucs!🔥” But sources say Giselle was less than happy with Tom’s decision to come out of retirement. In fact, it got so ugly between the couple, sources say that’s why Tom took 11 days leave from practicing with the Bucs to sort things out with his wife. Reportedly, things are still very tense between them and some have been questioning whether their marriage will survive. Last night was Tom’s first game since un-retiring, taking on the Cowboys in Dallas…or Arlington, if you want to be technical about it. Giselle was not there in person but she did show support for her man on social media, tweeting, “Let’s go @TomBrady ! Let’s go Bucs ! ✨✨✨” They ended up beating the Cowboys, 19-3.

Ray J is just trying to enjoy his vacation in the Dominican Republic, but he couldn’t let the lies go on. Kris Jenner was on the “Late Late Show” last week and took a lie detector test, and when she said she had nothing to do with releasing Kim and Ray J’s sex tape, it showed she was telling the truth. Ray J blew up on social medial, calling lie detector examiner John Grogan a fake and saying the whole thing was staged to make him look like a liar AGAIN. Ray J posted a 44-minute video on Instagram, captioning it, “…WHAT YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME IS ALMOST INHUMANE AND FOUL AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL — (BLANK) THIS BEING JUST RACIST — THIS IS WRONG TO DO TO ANYBODY — YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST (BLANK) PEOPLE OVER AND GET AWAY WITH IT FOREVER!!!” Ray J claims that Kris not only helped broker the deal to release the tape, he showed what looked like the contract, which showed that Kim and Ray J would each be paid $400K. Back in May, Ray J did an interview with the “Daily Mail,” claiming he did suggest leaking the tape and that Kim “jumped on the idea.” But then after it was released, he said, “I I felt suicidal because when you know something’s real and it’s true and you’re watching a whole family create an empire from a lie they’ve created. It’s heartbreaking and disrespectful to all the entertainers who have been honest and true to their craft. For me, I’ve been walking on eggshells thinking I’m going to get in trouble for telling the truth and I’ve been holding onto it for the past 14 years and watching them humiliate me. They’re celebrating my destruction.”
Ray J claims Kris Jenner made him and Kim Kardashian shoot three sex tapes so that she could choose the best one.
