Box office weekend… 2024 Comic-Con news… Lady Gaga is engaged… Josh Hartnett is back… and Justin Timberlake’s drunk friend drove car after DWI arrest

To the surprise of no one, Deadpool & Wolverine was the number one movie at the box office. It was projected to bring in anywhere from $160M-200M, and it actually did a little better than that. After earning $38.5M on Thursday in box office previews, D&W went on to earn an estimated $205M this weekend, easily covering the $200M it cost to make. At the same time, D&W became the 9th film in movie history to open with over $200M AND now holds the record for the biggest opening ever for an R-rated movie. It beat the previous record holder Deadpool by more than $70M. After enjoying a week in the top spot, Twisters fell to second with $35.3M. Coming in third was Despicable Me 4 with another $14.2M, followed by Inside Out 2 with $8.3M. Earning over $1.5B worldwide, this movie is not only this highest-grossing animated movie of all time, it’s now passed Top Gun: Maverick for 12th on the list of highest earning movies of all time. And rounding out the top five this weekend was the independent film Longlegs with $6.7M.

San Diego Comic-Con International is a wrap, and after a jam-packed weekend of movie trailers and celebrity-packed panels, the biggest news coming out of the weekend is that Glen Powell will make his animated debut on the Family Guy Halloween special, premiering Oct. 14 on Hulu. In this episode, Peter — voiced by Seth MacFarlane — will try to unseat the reigning champion in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest, Patrick McCloskey, aka Glen Powell. In other Comic-Con news, Marvel Studios introduced us to the actor who will play Doctor Doom in the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The crowd went wild when the man wearing a green suit walked out on stage, took off his mask and revealed himself to be………Robert Downey Jr.!!!” He said, “New mask, same task. What can I say? I like playing complicated characters.” Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters in May of 2026.

We’ve suspected it for a while, but Lady Gaga seemingly confirmed her engagement to tech entrepreneur Michael Polansky. Not only has she been wearing a massive diamond since April, Gaga introduced Michael to the Prime Minister of France as “my fiancé.” Gaga and Michael started dating about 4 years ago. They broke up for a few months last year, but have been going strong ever since. According to his LinkedIn profile, Michael is Harvard graduate who has his hand in a lot of businesses. Remember Napster founder and Facebook co-founder Sean Parker? Michael serves as the CEO for The Parker Group, which houses Sean’s charities and businesses.

While promoting his new movie Trap, Josh Hartnett told The Guardian that one of the many reasons he left Hollywood about 20 years ago was because of stalkers. Josh talked about one particularly scary moment when a man showed up at one of his movie premieres with a guy and claimed to be his father. Josh said, “He ended up in prison.” Not only was his life in danger, Josh also reared that he would be crushed by fame. So he decided to pack up and move to England, where he lives with his wife on a sprawling countryside estate in Hampshire.

According to TMZ, Justin Timberlake’s lawyer is trying to have the entire DWI case against him dismissed. From what was reported in the press, when Justin was pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol on him and Justin admitted to having just one martini. After refusing a breathalyzer, Justin failed multiple field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Now sources have filled in some of the missing pieces for TMZ. We read that Justin was following some friends back to their place when he was pulled over. Apparently, that car turned around and came back to the scened. The woman who was in the car with her husband got out and reportedly went up to one of the officers, asking, “Are you going to arrest Justin Timberlake?” She then allegedly offered to drive Justin to her house, but officers refused. So then, she reportedly asked the officers if she could drive Justin’s rental car to her house rather than just leave it on the side of the road, and they agreed. So Justin’s lawyer is going to argue that this woman drank way more than Justin did that night and officers let HER drive. So…if the two officers were unable to properly evaluate a woman who’d OBVIOUSLY had too much, how could they properly evaluate Justin?
