Box office news… Vanderpump Rules update… Liam Payne’s hotel room… Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction… and Jelly Roll blasts ‘slimy’ music industry

Smile was originally supposed to be a streamer, but Paramount Pictures decided to release it in theaters instead, and it went to earn over $200M worldwide. Fast forward two years, and Smile 2 opened this weekend with $23M. By the way, yes — that IS Jack Nicholson’s son Ray playing Paul Hudson, a movie star linked to the lead character’s troubled past. When Ray smiles his creepy smile, he’s a dead-ringer for his dad in The Shining. The Wild Robot remains in second with another $10.1M. Last week’s No. 1 movie Terrifier 3 slipped to third with $9.3M, followed by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in fourth with $5M and We Live in Time jumped from 18th place last weekend to fifth place this weekend. Only showing in 985 theaters. Compare that to over 3600 theaters showing Smile 2 and over 3800 showing The Wild Robot. We Live in Time follows the story of a chef and restaurant owner played by Florence Pugh who meets a recently divorced Weetabix employee played by Andrew Garfield when she accidentally hits him with her car.

When Tom Sandoval was asked about the future of Vanderpump Rules, he said, “I hope it continues on. I feel like we still have a lot of story to tell. Like everything, we’re just gonna wait and see what happens.” But Thea de Sousa — who is sort of like the Reality Steve of Vanderpump Rules – told The US Sun that filming was supposed to have begun this month for what will be its last season, but production is being held up because of contract negotiations. Thea said, “Every cast member gets a mandatory salary bump each season. So now we’re up to Season 12, so you can imagine how completely just underwater that Bravo is in terms of paying this cast…So they had to start negotiating [with] people and trying to move people down from maybe main cast member to ‘friend of’…But they are still promising that they are supposed to do a final season. They’ve just postponed it.”

According to People, a source in the prosecutor’s office in Buenos Aires says prosecutors believe the drugs Liam Payne obtained before falling to his death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel were sold to him by hotel employee, and were potentially smuggled into his room inside a box of Dove soap. The source said there could be an indictment coming soon. Multiple sources also told People that Liam had been staying in another hotel, but was asked to leave after appearing intoxicated and bothering other guests. That’s when he moved over to CasaSur Palermo.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held over the weekend. Among the highlights, Dua Lipa opened the show singing Cher’s Believe before the icon herself joined her onstage. And then Cher was inducted by Zendaya, who showed up wearing a slinky gold, skin-baring dress similar to one Cher wore in 1972. Cher told the crowd that her two divorces were easier than getting into the Hall of Fame. Dionne Warwick was joined by Jennifer Hudson for I’ll Never Love This Way Again. An all-star cast performed for Foreigner, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith on drums and Slash on guitar. Demi Lovato performed Feels Like the First Time followed by Sammy Hagar singing Hot Blooded with current Foreigner singer Kelly Hansen. Kelly Clarkson then sang I Wanna Know What Love Is with original lead singer Lou Gramm. The Dave Matthews Band was inducted by Julia Roberts, who said, “The first time I ever danced with my husband was almost 25 years ago to a Dave Matthews Band song. That was a winning combination as I have been swooning over my husband and this band ever since.” Jack Black inducted Ozzy Osbourne, who sat on a bat throne and watched a bunch of performances, including Jelly Roll, who performed Mama I’m Coming Home.

Speaking of Jelly Roll, he says he’s leaving X, aka Twitter, after one negative comment sent him over the edge. After the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony Saturday night, Jelly Roll posted a picture from backstage with some of the artists there that night, including Jack Black. One person commented, “Jack black looking real uncomfortable” to which Jelly responded, “Jack Black hung out with us for 10 hours in the green room, coolest most comfortable dude I’ve ever met in my life lol.” But I think it was the comments that followed that really got to him — too deep to get into here, but you can go read them all because they’re still posted. Jelly Roll tweeted, “This is for sure the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD. lol. This place is different man, I always heard it was the Wild West on here but man it’s insane . It’s a safe place for everyone to say mean s*** to each other with no consequences. I’m out lol.” So is he “lol” or serious?
