Weekend box office news… Chip and Joanna Gaines’ announcement… Nick Jonas & Priyanka Chopra get their license… The People’s Choice Awards… and Celebrities forced to evacuate homes
Let’s be honest. It’s been a rough year. And people are REALLY ready to get into the Christmas spirit. That sense of urgency probably helped push “The Grinch” to the top of the box office this weekend. It opened in first with $66 million. In case you’re wondering who some of the celebrity voices are — Benedict Cumberbatch is the voice of the Grinch and Pharrell Williams is the narrator. Coming in second was “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $30.9 million, followed by the new “Overlord” in third with $10.1 million. Despite less-than-enthusiastic reviews, people still really want it to be Christmas already, which is what helped “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” place fourth with $9.6 million. The real stinker of the weekend was “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” which opened in fifth with only $8 million.
