‘Shahs of Sunset’ canceled… Amy Schumer denies stealing… John Cena’s action comedy project… Kim Kardashian at Hulu Premiere… and Avril Lavigne is engaged to Mod Sun

Listen to “Showbiz – Apr 8, 2022” on Spreaker.

In reality news, “Shahs of Sunset” premiered on Bravo back in March of 2012. But after 9 seasons, they’re pulling the plug. One source told Page Six that the show had become too expensive to produce, but another said it had simply run its course. A couple weeks ago, one of its stars Mike Shouhed was arrested for domestic violence. However, sources say that had nothing to do with the show’s cancellation. And Christina Haack – then El Moussa – then Anstead – then Haack again – now Hall is getting another home makeover show on HGTV. This one is “Christina in the Country,” and it will follow Christina as she redesigns houses in Tennessee. In May of last year, Christina bought a second home about 30 miles south of Nashville, but says she’ll continue to live full-time in Newport Beach with her third husband, realtor Josh Hall. Christina and her first husband Tarek El Moussa recently ended “Flip or Flop.” But she’s keeping real busy because in addition to her new show, she will continue “Christina on the Coast.”

That slap we’re tired of talking about wasn’t the only controversy to come out of the Oscars. Amy Schumer was accused of stealing a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio from someone on Twitter. At the Oscars, Amy said, “Leonardo DiCaprio is doing so much for the planet. He will leave it in better shape for his girlfriends.” Just to show how accurate that joke is, Leo is 47 and he’s currently dating 22-year-old model Camila Morrone. It turns out, that back in December, an almost identical joke was tweeted by a comedy writer named Nicole Conlan. When a caller asked her about it on “Watch What Happens Live,” Amy said, “I would like to say, I haven’t personally been on Twitter. I’ve had my assistant do it, just so I can remain alive and not kill myself. And also, that joke was written by Suli McCullough (a writer for the Oscars). But I thank you guys, always, for making sure that I don’t start thievery,” adding, “I’m funny enough, I don’t need to steal s***.” Amy also said she took a polygraph for “Vanity Fair” to prove she wasn’t lying, and it showed she was telling the truth.

Deadline is reporting that John Cena will star in a new buddy cop movie for Amazon called “Officer Exchange.” It sounds very similar to “Rush Hour” starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. In “Rush Hour,” Jackie comes to the US from Hong Kong and teams up with Chris to rescue the kidnapped daughter of the Chinese Consul. In “Officer Exchange,” John goes to India and teams up with an officer there to take down an international diamond smuggling ring. A co-star hasn’t been announced yet, but there’s a massive pool of Bollywood talent for John to choose from. And considering the popularity of Bollywood films, this is guaranteed to be a massive international hit for Amazon. By the way, John actually made a movie with Jackie Chan, but we may never get to see it. Back in 2018, they filmed “Snafu” in China, but US/China trade relations are holding up its release.

Last night was the red carpet premiere for “The Kardashians” on Hulu. Kourtney and Travis Barker were there for their first official appearance since their practice wedding in Vegas. Khloe brought her daughter True, who turns 4 on Tuesday. And Kim brought Pete Davidson, who didn’t walk the red carpet, pose for pictures or do interviews with Kim. He was just there to support his woman. Did he not pose because, as Hollywood Life first reported, they’re saving their official red carpet debut for the Met Gala on May 2? Maybe. Kim was very evasive, saying she wasn’t even sure she was going. She has to wait until the very last minute to make sure the dress being designed for her fits because there’s no way to alter it.

Are Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck re-engaged? While out shopping with her daughter Emme yesterday, Jennifer was wearing a large diamond on THAT finger. But when she noticed paparazzi, she flipped the ring around to her palm so they couldn’t get a good shot of it. Was it the same $2.5M Harry Winston pink solitaire Ben gave her when he first proposed in 2002? Was it a new engagement ring from Ben? Or was it just a big diamond? We don’t know. But we DO know that congratulations are in order for Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun. They got engaged in front of the Eiffel Tower back on March 27, but they’re just letting the rest of us know now. Avril and Mod Sun — whose real name is Derek Smith — met when she was featured on his single “Flames” back in 2021. They’ve been inseparable ever since. Mod Sun chose a heart-shaped diamond because when he and Avril met, they were both wearing heart-shaped rings, which they’ve worn every day since. Avril told “People,” “It has the words ‘Hi Icon’ engraved in it, which were the first words he ever said to me. And it has Mod + Avril on the inside.”
